The Jester

Keeping up appearances

is what we do

whilst on the inside

our mood is completely blue

We smile and chat

as if all is fine

the reality is not

so benign

We are the Jester

all happy and content

but in our mind

we are suffering anguish and

We all need to learn

to look beyond the smile

  1. I like what you wrote. It’s heartfelt.
I have referred to the fool as a brilliant person who’s not a fool but has fooled everyone. I have used Jester and Fool as synonyms, but the “Tarot Fool” is as himself, wherein in the poem, the Jester must make himself a fool while knowing otherwise. It can be crushing. Thank you for the inspiration.
